Services for Potential Security Officers

CAN I BE A SECURITY OFFICER?
If you are over the age of 18, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and have no criminal felony record, you have the basic qualifications to be a registered security officer in NJ.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A SECURITY OFFICER?
In addition to the above, you must take a 24 hour training course, as specified by the Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police.

WHAT DO I DO TO BECOME A SECURITY OFFICER?
Take and pass the initial 24 hour training course, get hired by a security services company, and pass a background check.

WHY SHOULD I GO TO AFI SECURITY TRAINING INSTITUTE FOR MY TRAINING?
While just about any school can teach you to be a security officer, in order to get or maintain your SORA certification from the state, you must receive your initial and refresher training from an instructor who has been certified by the New Jersey State Police. Many instructors at local or on-line schools are not New Jersey State Police certified. All of AFI Security Training Institute's instructors are New Jersey State Police certified.

Our instructors all have experience in this field, and can give you the benefit of their experience in addition to the required class material. In addition, we offer a choice between a straight 3 day course, or if you're working, we can offer an extended class over a period of 5 days or evenings, or weekends.

DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO HANDLE A GUN?
Not necessarily. Most security officers are NOT armed.

CAN YOU HELP ME FIND A JOB AS A SECURITY OFFICER?
After you pass your course, we will provide you with a reference to our client security companies which are hiring.

DOES EVERYONE WHO TAKES THE COURSE PASS IT?
We hope so, but there may be some people who might fail the course.

WHAT IF I FAIL THE COURSE?
If that should happen, we will allow the student to re-take the course (within one month.)

CAN I GET FINANCIAL AID?
We're working on that.

HOW LONG ARE CLASSES?
Initial training is 24 hours; refresher training for re-certification is 8 hours.
